Simulation of Cardiac Action Potentials Background Information
نویسنده
چکیده
The goal of assignments related to this document is to experiment with a numerical simulation of the cardiac action potential. The form of this simulation is just as described in class, using the Hodgkin-Huxley formalism and differential equations to reproduce the currents responsible for the action potential. To simulate the cardiac action potential, it is necessary to expand the number of channels from the simple squid giant axon case, and also to alter the dynamic of these currents compared with the original work of Hodgkin and Huxley. This background section and the Matlab code that you will use is primarily the work of Quan Ni, a former Bioengineering graduate student and now engineer at Guidant Corporation.

Optimization of hospital electronic information system in cardiac care unit: A participatory action research
Background : One of the indices of health care development is the use of HIS, but it is not supporting the nursing process as a scientific method. So, this study was done in order to optimize Hospital Information System (HIS) in cardiac care unit with the approach of “nursing care using scientific method”. Materials and Methods: This study is a part of a participatory action research which w...
متن کاملA Hybrid Classifier for Characterizing Motor Unit Action Potentials in Diagnosing Neuromuscular Disorders
Background: The time and frequency features of motor unit action potentials (MUAPs) extracted from electromyographic (EMG) signal provide discriminative information for diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders. However, the results of conventional automatic diagnosis methods using MUAP features is not convincing yet. Objective: The main goal in designing a MUAP characterization system ...
متن کاملRobustness of Action Potentials in Cardiac Myocytes
(1.1) Cm ∂V ∂t = 1 Ra ∂2V ∂x2 − Iion(V, t)− Istim(t), where Ra and Cm are the axial resistance and membrane capacitance, Iion represents the total ionic current, and Istim(t) is an applied stimulus current which instigates an action potential. The source term Iion is usually specified by some Hodgkin-Huxley type ionic model. In our simulations, we use the Luo-Rudy phase I (1991) model, one of t...
متن کاملBond graph modelling of the cardiac action potential: Implications for drift and non-unique steady states
Mathematical models of cardiac action potentials have become increasingly important in the study of heart disease and pharmacology, but concerns linger over their robustness during long periods of simulation, in particular due to issues such as model drift and non-unique steady states. Previous studies have linked these to violation of conservation laws, but only explored those issues with resp...
متن کاملModeling as a Tool for Understanding of Changes in ECG Signals
An updated program for modeling simplified heart geometry and simulation of action potentials propagation is presented. The implemented model allows simulation of geometry changes as well as changes in action potentials amplitude and duration. In propagation simulation real conduction velocities can be considered. Two different pathological situations were simulated using the model. First, only...
